| Jenna's Story - Illumination of the Highly Sensitive Person |
|
After years of seeking answers about her own sensitivity, Jenna found them, and through that search and personal healing, she would write her revealing childhood story about growing up sensitive. Since then she has been coaching and teaching on the topics of inner peace, higher consciousness, and life transformation. Help Is On Its Way - A Memoir About Growing Up Sensitive helps introduce the emotional development of sensitive kids to mainstream audiences. This memoir follows author Jenna Forrest through ages 6-17 as a series of life events threaten to overwhelm her highly sensitive nervous system. An estimated 15-20% of men, women and children have a highly sensitive nervous system, but few people know that this level of sensitivity is a natural way of being that is very relevant to humanity as a whole. Children with such perception get added feedback from the brain about sounds, smells, tastes, textures, and images - all the things that the nervous system processes. Take this official test to determine if you or your child has the trait.

When at the beginning of chapter one, I read, "Quiet times like this give me a break from having to feel everyone else's feelings," tears sprang to my eyes--I knew I would enjoy your book. As a little boy, I used to hide under our willow tree in the back yard, and I still have trouble keeping others' emotions from invading my own. As a highly sensitive male, I've long known there was something "wrong" with me--that is, till discovering Elaine Aron's books last year. It was in her newsletters that I read about your book, and one of my former professors bought it for me. Thank you for your openness, for trusting your readers with a part of your life, and for encouraging me to keep the inner flame burning. It's not always easy. Please write more!" "I just finished reading this amazing memoir this morning. What an inspiring story you've shared with the world! I'm going to order a few copies for my mother and sister. In fact, I called my sister last night to share a few pages from the book with her, and we both cried. It really hit home for both of us! This book helped me in so many ways." "For especially the past seven years I have deeply felt that I must be from another planet. All my life I felt "out of place" but never knew why except that everything felt so much heavier to me then to those around me...In November of 2008, a month before I turned 40, I found out about (the trait of high sensitivity) and found so much hope. I ordered whatever I could find on the subject from Elaine Aron to Kyra Mesich to you. I believe the work you and people like you are doing is crucial for the development fo the comon human mind/soul/spirit connection and therefore humanity's growth. Plus we must help those of us (empaths, HSP's, etc) who carry this huge burden without knowledge or help and who suffer."

"I'm currently reading Help Is On Its Way and believe me when I say the timing of its arrival could not have been better! I have recently discovered information on the trait of High Sensitivity and all that it means...I feel relief and healing that my ways now make sense. I'm busy learning and networking and reading your book is helping so much. I feel the time has come to live the life I was born to live. Thanks Jenna for your insights and your truth."
"For many children growing up in the 70's, 80's, & 90's, divorce has become more common of a 'growing up' experience than in past historical experiences of family life. I think for many adults who are still processing the divorce which took place in their family when they were a child would find this a helpful read. It was a helpful read to me coming from a family life where there has not been a divorce. Very insightful. No matter what age a child is when a divorce takes place it is traumatic and as a child who is highly sensitive additional issues may become necessary to address in addition. I think this book should be a book recommended for children of divorce who are now teens and adults."
Sally, Salt Lake City, Utah "As is pointed out by your book, we need to care for ourselves in order to care for others...feeling like it is our special job to fix the world might not help with maintaining this balance." Jodie, Melbourne, Australia "After reading your book, this was the first time I ever talked about this. I have not talked to my siblings about it, and never got to talk to my mom either, since she died when I was 13. Thank you for writing this book Jenna. Could God possibly had intended this book for me, so I can heal all these wounds? I don't know, but I think we all have a purpose in this life, and I encourage you to write, keep writing, because I know there are many persons like you, like me, that need to know that Help Is On Its Way." "I was very excited to read your work and am very interested in knowing more. The small amount that I read was hitting the nail on the head, it never occurred to me that my son freaking out from the toilet flushing or the vacuum cleaner going overwhelming him to the point of being distraught had to do with being a sensitive person. The insight I think will be very helpful, especially when I am at a loss with trying to help him figure out how to get a grip at daycare."
Helen, Durham, North Carolina
"I read your book. And it was amazing!!!! Not only did I have trouble putting the book down, but I learned so much. Your writing style is magnificent. Because of the level of detail that you included in your beautifully-crafted sentences, I was able to totally be in the moment with you and truly experience the feelings and sensations. So even though I don’t meet the criteria for being highly sensitive, I thoroughly get it and could relate to it. Quite a journey you have had…thank you for sharing it. I only wish the book continued so I could witness how you evolved past your teenage years…I hope you are writing Volume 2!" Jill, Trenton, New Jersey
"Your honest and courageously raw portrayal of your life, thoughts and emotions kept pulling me deeper into the writing. It definitely made me revisit some of my own memories about my kids and my divorce, and feelings that have at times paralyzed me from acting." Sharon, Kelowna, Canada "Children live with a sense of urgency in the now; everything is so important. Adults can learn that from kids, especially through a book such as yours that allows us to experience the heart and psyche of a child. Kids experience life through their hearts, they don't filter so much through their heads." Nancy, Minneapolis, Minnesota
"Forrest's voice is a lot like the one in our heads - the one that most of us are only willing to listen to late at night. What a relief that the sensitive person finally speaks up about what the world looks like through feeling glasses."
Bookreporter.com "Jenna's sensitivity comes out in her writing voice and the result is a rich panoply of both sensory and psychic impressions that give the reader an understanding of what it is to be in her skin. Her book can stand with other notable memoirs." "Highly sensitive people will recognize their own childhood in Jenna Forrest's radiant painting, using every hue in the emotional spectrum of her years from six to seventeen. Readers will be charmed by this sensitive woman's unique creative force, a valuable reminder of their own." "Painfully honest, yet remarkably wise - a must read for anyone who's determined to live their best life." "The writing is vivid and sensitive. It's the showing of intuition in action." "Jenna Forrest shares a profound gift with us by allowing readers of her memoirs to peer into her soul. Her poetic prose amplifies the experience to the degree that we can feel the vinyl on the chairs and hear the scratch of the LP's she describes in her journey through childhood. Her words give voice to our child's mind with authentic eloquence, beauty, humor, sadness, fear and hope." Click here to order help is on its way from Amazon.com.
